Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
