🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Are Going Mainstream This Season Respawn Entertainment has an exciting surprise in store for Apex Legends players, arriving just in time for festive season. Enthusiasts of the battle royale's super-slick movement will be pleased to learn that a new movement mechanic is being implemented when Season 27: Amped goes live on November 4th. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Dubbed "Momentum Boosting" by Respawn, this feature gives players a burst of propulsion when climbing over ledges and walls. According to key developer the design lead, this technique was previously been a feature of the game for some time, often called as "mantle jumping." But it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in Ranked Mode or tournaments. This season, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to successfully perform these advanced speed-boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for some time, but executing it requires skill to pull off and a player might not realize it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," the designer explains. "Now including a visual cue so players can easily see the timing to activate the high-octane traversal skill, making accessible the feature and adding fresh strategies to compete for a much wider base." Why Opening Up Advanced Mechanics Why make a previously obscure movement quirk available to all players? Lead Legend designer Josh Mohan explains developers aims for gamers to feel powerful — even those who are new. "Our community is doing other crazy stuff like super-glides and tap-strafing, and we examined at other games, looked at what our players are doing, and we said, 'What if we extend these capabilities to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Because currently, some of these techniques are kind of janky to use — it requires to change controls and hit precise timings. So we said, 'How about we create a polished implementation?'" Season 27 Movement Focus Movement is primarily the name of the game in this season, with Legends Horizon, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant all getting enhancements to help keep them mobile. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and this skill will propel users upward faster than before. Her defensive walls now include overhead protection and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. But the spotlight is on aerial this Legend who's getting significant improvements now, with various adjustments applied to enhance her as more potent, faster, and more lethal. "In my opinion there's quite a consensus that Valkyrie's time has arrived," states Legend designer the designer. "Certainly she was top-tier previously, but with the introduction of new Legends, movement[-based] passives, and Evac Towers, it felt like she's not very relevant in current Apex. It was a really great opportunity for us to reexamine multiple elements in her abilities and essentially restore her to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To reclaim her competitive status in current strategies, the developer notes the team assessed each of her abilities and introduced some powerful modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, increasing her speed during flight, and this equipment regenerates three times faster, allowing her to remain longer aloft. Now she won't be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to tag opponents who take damage from it. Her squad redeploy ability — which launches her entire squad into the air for redeployment or retreat — now takes reduced delay to fire up. Additionally, she gains some new Legend Upgrades that users can choose to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her ultimate takeoff time. "Her jet pack now delivers on that jet-fighter fantasy," he says. Map Changes Additionally, the only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly overhaul, with major changes that expands choke points and renders claiming the high ground a bit less daunting. Respawn says the game this update is all about providing gamers the resources they need to keep up with the competition. "Essentially, we were looking at Apex's core identity as a movement shooter," explains lead Legend designer the lead. Apex Legends the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
